Sourcing Agreement

Purpose & Parties

This Air Quality Data Sourcing Agreement ("Agreement") sets out the terms on which air quality monitoring companies, device manufacturers, and data providers ("Partners") exchange data with MyAQI.org, operated by the MyAQI Non-Profit Initiative ("MyAQI").

The goal of this Agreement is to build the most comprehensive, hyperlocal, real-time air quality dataset for Pune — and eventually all Indian cities — by pooling data from citizen devices, partner networks, government stations, and environmental sensors into a single open data platform.

Partner Data Obligations

To participate in the MyAQI.org data network, Partners agree to the following:

• 2.1 Full device coverage. Partners who agree to participate must sink data from all their indoor and outdoor air quality monitors into MyAQI.org — not a selected subset. Selective data sharing undermines the integrity of the hyperlocal dataset and is not permitted under this Agreement.
• 2.2 Real-time transmission. Data must be transmitted at a minimum frequency of once per minute per active device via the MyAQI.org Apache Kafka Producer API (aqi.pune.ingest.v1). Partners may request alternative transmission frequencies for technical reasons, subject to approval by MyAQI.org.
• 2.3 Minimum data fields. Each data record must include at minimum: PM2.5, PM10, latitude, longitude, device IMEI, timestamp (UTC), and source type (indoor/outdoor). Additional fields (PM1, NO₂, SO₂, temperature, humidity) are encouraged.
• 2.4 Data accuracy. Partners warrant that their devices meet or exceed the sensor accuracy standards specified in the MyAQI.org Technical Specification (available at docs.myaqi.org). MyAQI.org reserves the right to flag or exclude data from devices that fall below quality thresholds.
• 2.5 Continuous availability. Partners should maintain a minimum 95% uptime for their data feed. Planned maintenance windows must be communicated to MyAQI.org at least 48 hours in advance.

MyAQI.org Data Rights Granted to Partners

In exchange for fulfilling their data obligations under Section 2, Partners receive the following data access rights:

• 3.1 Full outdoor AQI data access. Partners gain unrestricted access to all outdoor air quality data collected and aggregated by MyAQI.org — including data contributed by citizen devices, other partner networks, CPCB/government stations, and satellite sources — via the MyAQI.org Kafka Consumer API (aqi.pune.enriched.v1).
• 3.2 Enriched data stream. The consumer API provides data that has been quality-checked, interpolated, and enriched with contextual metadata — including proximity to CPCB reference stations, historical averages, and pollution attribution flags — at no additional cost.
• 3.3 Indoor AQ data — first-access rights. Partners who have connected their air quality monitors to the MyAQI.org platform gain first-access rights to anonymised, aggregated indoor AQ data for geographic zones where their devices are deployed — subject to citizen opt-in (see Section 4).
• 3.4 REST API fallback. Partners may also query data via the MyAQI.org REST API (https://api.myaqi.org/v1/) for specific lat/lon lookups, historical exports, and hotspot reports.

Citizen Data & Privacy

• 4.1 Outdoor data is always public. All outdoor air quality readings contributed to MyAQI.org — whether from citizen devices or partner devices installed outdoors — are published openly under CC BY 4.0 and may not be restricted or withheld by any partner.
• 4.2 Indoor data requires citizen opt-in. Indoor readings are shared with partners only where the citizen device owner has explicitly opted in. Partners may not use, store, or process individual citizen indoor readings without valid opt-in consent recorded by MyAQI.org.
• 4.3 Data anonymisation. All citizen data shared with partners via the Kafka consumer API is anonymised at the individual level. Partners receive aggregated readings by geographic grid cell, not by individual device ID or citizen identity, unless the citizen has additionally consented to identified sharing.
• 4.4 Compliance with DPDP Act 2023. Both MyAQI.org and all Partners must comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 in respect of any personal data processed under this Agreement.

Prohibited Uses

• 5.1 Partners may not resell MyAQI.org data to third parties without prior written consent from MyAQI.org.
• 5.2 Partners may not use MyAQI.org data to build a competing open data platform or data cooperative without MyAQI.org's consent.
• 5.3 Partners may not suppress, modify, or selectively exclude unflattering readings from their data contribution to MyAQI.org.
• 5.4 Partners may not contact citizens whose data flows through MyAQI.org without explicit opt-in consent as defined in Section 4.

Term, Termination & Dispute Resolution

This Agreement is effective from the date of Partner acceptance and continues on a rolling annual basis unless terminated by either party with 90 days written notice. In the event of a material breach, MyAQI.org may suspend a Partner's data access rights immediately and data contribution obligations within 30 days of written notice of the breach. Disputes shall be resolved by mediation in Pune under the rules of the Indian Council of Arbitration before recourse to litigation.
