Laws That Protect Your Air

Prohibits emission of air pollutants beyond prescribed standards from any industry, vehicle, or generator. Violations can be reported to MPCB (Maharashtra Pollution Control Board).

The National Green Tribunal has repeatedly banned open burning of waste, garbage (kachra), crop residue, and tyres in urban areas. Violations are cognisable offences.

🏗️ New: PMC Construction Dust Rules (Dec 2025)

Under a circular dated 15 December 2025, the Pune Municipal Corporation requires every construction & infrastructure project of 5,000 sq m or more (tightening toward 1,000 sq m) to run a real-time PM2.5/PM10 monitor and display a public LED "dust-severity" board. The colour on that board tells you — and the site — exactly when dust is dangerous:

Green · PM10 0–100

Normal. Routine dust control (nets, sprinklers).

Yellow · PM10 101–350

Increase sprinkling; check dust sources.

Orange · PM10 351–430

Intensify suppression; slow dusty work.

Red · PM10 > 430

Stop dust-generating work immediately.

If you have witnessed air pollution from a construction site, industrial unit, open burning, or illegal fumigation, you can file a complaint. Here's how:

STEP 1

Document the violation — use MyAQI.org to record the AQI spike with timestamp and GPS coordinates.

STEP 2

Identify the applicable law from the list above. Note the section number — you will need it in your complaint.

STEP 3

Find your local enforcement agency below (MPCB, PMC, Police, or NGT) and file online or in person.

STEP 4

Share your MyAQI.org data export as evidence. Our readings are timestamped and geo-tagged.
